SAFETY DATA SHEETS: NEW REQUIREMENTS
Once again, we update information on standards and regulations from the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Paints and Printing Inks, ASEFAPI https://www.asefapi.es/En. This time we take up again an important communication about SAFETY DATA SHEETS. To return to this topic, we will first recall what this document itself is.
What is a Safety Data Sheet?
Basically, it is an “instruction manual” for the safe use of the product to which it refers: its composition, application, storage, physical and chemical properties, information on health, safety, fire and environmental hazards that the chemical may cause. Let us not forget that we are talking about hazardous chemicals that we must know how to handle and store. These documents also set out how to act in the event of an accidental spill.
The information they contain and their updating is of vital importance and now, with these new requirements, it is time to review and corroborate each point.

Formats: before and after.
By now, we have a summary published last May: https://asefapi.es/actualidad/2022/05/11/nuevos-requisitos-para-fds/ (Spanish). You’ll find basic features of new requirements on the content of these documents. Until now, all SDS could be provided in the current format or in the format that will be mandatory as of 31/12/2022. You can review full publication of Regulation (EU) 2020/878 here: https://www.boe.es/doue/2020/203/L00028-00058.pdf Hope will be interesting.
