Did you know that in the event of a fire, the spread of flames can be slowed down if building elements, interior furniture etc, are adequately protected?
The IRIS fire retardant line is made up of a range of products that meets the required fire prevention standards (European standard UNE EN 13501-1:2019) and allows you to slow down the reaction of the fire and have more time to react to the flames. These products are also highly valued in the market, not only for their excellent chemical-physical properties, but also for the magnificent finishes they provide to our clients’ products.
IGNIFOND and IGNITER
We present you some of the products of our range of IRIS family fire retardants. These products are, on the one hand, pigmented (IGNIFOND EC-1800 and IGNITER EC-2600) and, on the other hand, transparent fire retardants (IGNIFOND EC-1600 and IGNITER EC-2400). With these new products, IRIS has managed to meet the current market requirements and demands, acquiring the B s1 d0 qualification (accredited by the technological institute AIDIMME) for construction products and building elements in our family of fireproof products.
IGNIFOND EC-1600 and IGNIFOND EC-1800 are two fast-drying and well-sanding acrylic polyurethane coatings that can be applied by hand or machine. Some of their most important characteristics are transparency, excellent resistance to yellowing and of course their fire retardant properties. They are generally used as a preparation base for wood and must always be accompanied by IGNITER EC-2400 and IGNITIR EC-2600 respectively, in order to guarantee and certify that they comply with the UNE EN 13501-1:02 standard, remaining in the fire performance classification of construction products and building elements, classified as B s1 d0.
On the other hand, the finishing products IGNITER EC-2400 and IGNITER EC-2600 (which go hand in hand with the products IGNIFOND EC-1600 and IGNIFOND EC-1800 respectively) are a range of acrylic polyurethane finishes with good coverage, excellent resistance to yellowing and good physical and mechanical resistance. They are available in a wide range of colours and in different shades of gloss (from deep matt to gloss). Their excellent fire retardant properties have been tested in accordance to UNE EN 13501-1:02 and, like the above, in reaction to fire tests, according to UNE EN 13501-1:2019 they have also obtained the classification B s1 d0.

What are the initials B s1 d0?
The European classification system for the behaviour of materials in their reaction to fire comprises 7 main classifications. Of these 7, “B”, represents those construction products that are safe in terms of fire safety. This classification is complemented by subclassifications “s” relating to the production and opacity of smoke generated in the fire and “d” refers to the production of flaming droplets or particles.
In our case, “s1″, is equivalent to a low quantity and speed of smoke (best possible classification to achieve) and “d0″, implies that no flaming drops/particles are produced (equally this classification is the best accreditation that these tests can give).
